Environmental sustainability: Agroecosystem biodiversity

Description

Agri-environmental schemes are governmental programmes set up to incentivise farmers to manage their land in an environmentally friendly manner (European Environment Agency, 2022). They foster the adoption of specific agricultural practices that support biodiversity. For instance, such schemes could include the implementation of hedgerows, and management of wetlands or other semi-natural habitats. Overall, this indicator points out if a specific management plan dedicated to the protection of biodiversity is in place. It is adapted from Manneville et al. (2014).
