Event date: September 22-23, 2022
On 22 and 23 September 2022, a workshop summarizing the outcomes of the MilKey project (but also the closely related ERA-NET MELS project) was organized by UZG in Falenty (Poland). The focus was put on the current situation of small Polish farms with particular attention to the social, environmental, and economic key aspects examined in the context of the project. Another aspect that was discussed, concerned the farming conditions of typical Polish dairy farms related to other dairy farms from other European partner countries. Moreover, the perspectives of implementing new technologies in manure management to improve nutrient use efficiency and reduce impact on air pollution of dairy farms were presented to the audience. Further, a group of stakeholders consisting of representatives of Polish authorities, farmers’ advisors, agricultural auditors, and scientists discussed about current challenges (i.e. low resilience and competitiveness of small farms, needs for farmers’ support and further education), barriers (i.e. lack of successors, limited subsidies for small farms) as well as potentials and perspectives for dairy producers in Poland.
